(MWHCO) was founded in l976 by Albert and Cheryl Barden of Norridgewock, Maine and their son joined the company three years ago, who had been carried on their backs in 1978 to England, France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Sweden, Demark and Finland searching for masonry heater technology that would become the catalyst for masonry heater design and construction in this county. He is a gifted artist, mason and designer of masonry heaters, cookstoves and ovens.

Over the years, the Bardens and Maine Wood Heat Co. have established a national reputation as authorities on high efficiency wood-burning systems. In the last several years, the Bardens and Maine Wood Heat Co. have focused their efforts on the introduction and development of high-efficiency passive masonry heaters, ovens, cookstoves, and fireplaces adapted to American tastes and building codes from the European tradition.
