Treehugger.com has been a hub for Green information on the web for quite some time now. The site is a tremendous resource for environmentally minded folks, featuring daily news and updates on everything from renewable energy to green arts and crafts for kids. That’s why it’s no surprise that the Treehuggers give masonry heaters two resounding thumbs up. Make the jump on over to read why.

Of course, if you’re already familiar with the incredible efficiency offered by a properly designed masonry heater, you might find this more recent Treehugger post kind of funny. 2.2 cords (pictured above) for “casually heating” a 1900 sq. ft. house with oil back up? “[A]t least another cord, maybe two more” to heat full time? In a place (Western PA) where daily temps rarely dropped below 26 degrees F? Pardon us, but “Ha!”

If the author had invested in a masonry heater (as opposed to his fireplace insert), he could cut his wood usage roughly in half. That’s precisely “How much wood a treehugger would burn, if a treehugger would (and he should!) burn wood.”
